Language Patterns, NLP and Games

This workshop is about simple, effective, hands-on language patterns and phrases that an educator can use, regardless the age or the level or the nationality of the students or even the teaching environment or the subject, to positively influence and guide learners indirectly. These patterns are based on Neuro Linguistic Programming. It’s not what we, as educators, say but the way we say it that makes all the difference. A lot of examples extracted from real teaching conditions and situations will be provided. A teacher can apply these outstanding language patterns immediately, have positive impact on learners, get exquisite results and become a highly efficient educator.
They are universally appropriate. These phrases stem from NLP models and they are specifically designed to be used and integrated into a teacher's work. I'll talk extensively about why they are so important and I'll give specific examples all drawn from a teaching context. Participants will have the chance to think about reasons why these language patterns can have such an impact on learners and create their own examples as well. I will provide participants with the rationale behind each phrase and how it works. There is no doubt that by using these extraordinary and yet so simple language patterns a teacher can influence and guide learners indirectly and notice positive impact and amazing, immediate results.
Marketplace: In 'Marketplace' learners have to rotate and more or less half of the learners are going to ‘sell’ and the other half are going to ‘buy’. The teacher can use this kinesthetic activity to help students practice speaking and listening, collaborate, learn when and how to give and take turns, make proposals and recommendations, persuade others, be assertive, use their imagination and be creative.

Carousel Brainstorming or Rotating Review Teaching Technique: The teacher can use this kinesthetic learning technique to have students practice speaking: exchange ideas, collaborate, review either a book or learnt information, activate background knowledge, learn through mapping, reinforce exploration.

Both in Carousel and Marketplace speaking techniques learners have to rotate, be creative, exchange ideas and collaborate. The activities are fun, practical, ready-to-use and can be adjusted to fit different levels of learners, different classroom sizes, needs and ability groups. I will present a couple of versions but I will also provide attendees with extra ideas on how to use these two speaking techniques in different ways in class.
